Throckmorton's typescript unpublished memoirs composed between 1942 and 1945. The memoirs are arranged in four chapters. Chapter one is devoted to the Throckmorton lineage and family experiences in Derby, Iowa. Chapter two covers the family's years in Chariton, Iowa. This chapter includes observations about Thomas's father's experiences as a rural doctor. Chapter three discusses his years at Simpson College, Keokuk Medical College and Jefferson Medical College as well as his post-graduate work in neurology, including the time spent at the Cherokee State Hospital. The final chapter is devoted to his years in practice in Des Moines (1912- ), affiliations with various medical societies and his involvement in Freemasonry. This chapter includes a 1937 radio address by Throckmorton while he was Grand Master of the Masons of Iowa.

Des Moines physician. Thomas Bentley Throckmorton was born in Derby, Iowa, son of Dr. Tom Morford Throckmorton. He graduated from Chariton High School, Simpson College and Jefferson Medical College (Philadelphia). He worked as a physician at the Philadelphia Orthopedic Hospital, the Cherokee (Iowa) State Hospital for the Insane and Des Moines hospitals as a specialist in neurology and psychiatry.
